How to Receive Your Amex Card in South Africa — Delivery Timeframes and Options
Once Nedbank approves your American Express credit card application and you have signed the credit agreement, your physical card is produced and dispatched. The delivery process is managed by Nedbank.
Standard Card Delivery
| Card Tier | Delivery Method | Estimated Timeframe |
|---|---|---|
| Gold Credit Card | Courier to your registered address | 5–7 business days |
| Platinum Credit Card | Face-to-face delivery (first issue, complimentary) | 5–7 business days |
Face-to-face delivery for the Platinum card means a Nedbank representative or courier agent delivers the card directly to you at your registered home or business address and may require you to sign and verify your identity on receipt. This is complimentary on first issue and adds an extra layer of security for the higher-value card.
After Your Card Arrives
- Activate your card via the Nedbank Money app or Nedbank Online Banking. Do not use the card before activating it.
- Set your PIN — you can set a PIN of your choice through the app or at a Nedbank ATM.
- Add to digital wallets — you can add your Amex card to Apple Pay or Google Pay for contactless payments once it is activated.
- Register for Membership Rewards — if not automatically enrolled, register at https://www.americanexpress.com/en-za/network/benefits/rewards/.
What to Do If Your Card Does Not Arrive
If your card has not arrived within 10 business days of approval:
- Call Nedbank customer service on 0800 555 111
- Have your ID number and application reference ready
- Request confirmation of the delivery address on file and ask for tracking information
- If the card was lost in transit, request a replacement — Nedbank will reissue at no charge
Supplementary Cards
If you requested supplementary cards for family members, these are typically delivered along with the primary card or within 2–3 additional business days. Each supplementary card must be activated separately.
